About the film. Translate into Russian.
The film is an abridged modernization of Shakespeare's play. While it retains the original Shakespearean dialogue, it takes place in
the fictional modern-day location "Verona Beach", the Capulets and the Montagues are arch-rivals, and swords are replaced by
guns (manufactured by 'Sword').
Some of the names were also changed. Lord and Lady Montague and Lord and Lady Capulet (Fulgencio and Gloria Capulet and Ted
and Caroline Montague) were given first names (as opposed to the Shakespeare original where their first names are never
mentioned), Friar Lawrence became Father Laurence, and Prince Escalus was renamed Captain Prince. Also there is Dave Paris, son
of the Governor, nominated as "Bachelor of the Year".
Additionally, a few plot details were shifted; most notably, Juliet awakens just as Romeo poisons himself and the two see each
other alive before he dies and she commits suicide.

Review:
No matter how many innovative and unconventional flourishes it applies, the success of any adaptation of a Shakespeare play is
determined by two factors: the competence of the director and the ability of the main cast members. Luhrmann, Danes, and
DiCaprio place this Romeo and Juliet in capable hands. And, while such a loud, brash interpretation may not go down in cinematic
history as the definitive version of the play, hopefully it will open a few eyes and widen the audience willing to venture into any
movie bearing the credit "based on the play by William Shakespeare." More to add, the film is beautifully shot with vivid and
bizarre sets. The audience are already familiar with the text, and this leaves the director free to stun his audience with the visuals.

16. Express your ideas: about the film, about the idea of it, about the music and script.
17. Name all the plot lines. What lessons have you taken out this film? Discuss them in your group.
