Abstract T、、onewspeciesoftheanthribidgenusMecoce,・Illaaredescribedfrom
SouthVietnamandNorthThailandunderthenamesofM、l,ata,labeo1-utn(fromS.Viet-
nam)andMa,1goo,lao(fromN.Thailand).
Thegenus Mecoce1・InaJORDAN(1895, p. 164)belonging to the tribeAcorynini
comprisestwelvespeciesofanthribidbeetlesdistributedinSoutheastAsiaandNew
Guinea.Theseanthribidscanberecognizedatfirstsightonhavingverylongantennae
inthemalelikeCedusofthesametribe.The femaleantennaeofthegenusareshort,
andhavethegeneralcharacteristicsofthetribeAcorynini.
Recently, acollectionof Vietnameseanthribidswassubmitted tome for taxo-
nomicstudythroughthecourtesyofMr.M.NIsHIMuRAofTokyo.Inthiscollection,I
foundastrangespeciesof Mecocerinacollectedbyhimself in Lam DongProvince,
SouthVietnam.Anadditional strangespeciesof thegenuswascollected inChiang
MalProvince,whenIvisitedThailand for thefirsttime. Afteracarefulexamination, it
becameapparentthatbothhadnotbeendescribedbefore.Theywillbenamedinthe
presentpaper.

Male. Colourpredominantlyblack,dermofmudyel1owishlyhairedmarkings
onelytraandringsontibiaereddishbrown todarkreddishbrown.Pubescencerela-
tivelydense,blackandmudyellow;rostrumwithalongitudinalblackpatchoneach

emarginateatthemiddleofanteriormargin,andwithalongitudinalkeelatthemiddle
andabifurcatedepressioninapicalhalf;maximumwidthofbasesofmandiblesabout
4.4timesaswideastheshortestdistancebetweeneyes.Antennaelong,about4times
aslongasthelengthofbody,scapelong,swolleninapicalhalf,pedicelalsoswollenin
apicalhalf,about0.6timesaswideaslong,9ththelongest,proportionsinlengthfrom
1stto11thabout 19: 5:22:28:31:40:52: 64:73:5:12.
Pronotumtransverse,convexabove,about16timesaswideaslong,widestat
basal third; anterior part weakly convexaboveandproduced; discwith a transverse
mediansulcus;dorsaltransversecarinaalmoststraight,butangulateposteriorlyatthe
middle,androundlyconnectedwitheachlateralcarina,thelatterdeclivous,extending
beyondthemiddleofsidemargin; carinulaobscure.Scutellum small and rounded.
Elytrathick,about14timesaslongaswide,parallel-sidedinbasal three-fourths,then
narrowedposteriorly,basalmarginincurvedatthemiddleandproduced forwardsand
re?exedininnerhalfofeachelytron;stria1puncturessmall,deep,smallerandshal-
lower inapical third,theirdiameterdistinctlysmaller thanthewidthsof intervals; in-
tervalsweaklyswolleninbasal two-thirds;subbasalswellingsdistinct.Pygidiumin-
clined forwards,subtriangular,about12timesaswideaslong, lateralmarginsweakly
reflexe graduallyconvergenttowardswidelyroundedapex.
Mesosterna1process transverse,rectangular;metasternumwithalinearsulcusin
frontofposteriorcoxal cavities;viewed fromside,ventergraduallycurvedupwards

Notes. Inthepeculiarmarkingsofthepronotum,thisspeciesresemblesMeco-
cerinaguttataJORDAN(1903,p 427)describedfromNorthCelebes,butcanbedistin-
guishedfromthelatterbythedifferentlyformedelytra1markings,particularlythetre-
foiledsubbasalone,theabsenceofwhiteantennalring,andsoon.
ThisspeciesisdedicatedtoProfessorandMrs.YasuakiWATANABEofTokyoUni-
versityofAgriculture,whohavegivenmeandthecollectorofthetypeseriescontinu-
ousguidanceandencouragement.

Length:6.0-6.5mm(includinghead).
Male. Colour predominantlydarkbrown, antennaebrown, dermof mudye1-
1owishlyhairedmarkingsonelytraandringsontibiaereddishbrowntodarkreddish
brown.Pubescencerelatively dense, darkbrown,mudyellow andpaleyellow; head
withamudyellowstripe fromocciput torostrum;pronotumalsowithamedianone
frombasetoapex;elytrawithapairofdarkbrownroundpatchesinsubbasalpartand
adarkbrown irregular transversebandbeforethemiddle, which is interruptedat the
middle;pygidiumandundersidecoveredwithdarkbrownhairs;eachtibiawithapale
yellowbroadring;allsecondtarsalsegmentscoveredwithpaleyellowhairs.
Headmoderately long,extendingdownwards;eyesrounded,convexabove,rela-
tivelyapproximatetoeachother;rostrumrugged,coarctateatthemiddle,widestatthe
basesofmandibles,slightlyemarginateatthemiddleofanteriormargin,andwitha
longitudinalkeelextendingtobasalthirdofrostrum frombetweeneyesandabifurcate
depressioninapicalhalf;antennalcavitiesvisiblefromdorsalaspect;maximumwidth
ofbasesofmandiblesabout7.8timesaswideastheshortestdistancebetweeneyes.
Antennaelong,abouttwiceaslongasthelengthofbody,scapelong,swolleninapical
half,pedicel theshortest,about17timesaslongaswide,proportionsinlength from
1stto 11thabout26:8:32:37:39:38:43:46:42:11:23.

Prosternumdepressedinanteriormarginalpart;metasternumcoveredwithpunc-
tureswhicharesparserandshallower thanthoseofmetepisternum; 1st to4thvisible
stemites conjointly almost horizontal in lateral view, 5th somewhatslanting. Legs
moderatelylong;anterior,medianandposterior femorasubequa1inlengthtoonean-
other;anteriortibianearlyaslongasthemedianwhichisalittleshorterthantheposte-
rior;anteriortarsusalittlelongerthanthemedianwhichisnearlyaslongastheposte-

妹尾俊男:ベトナムおよびタイ国から発見されたMecoce,・Ina属 (ヒゲナガゾウムシ科) の2
新種. - 筆者は最近, インドシナ半島の昆虫類の調査研究をされている束京都の西村正賢
氏のご好意により, 多数のベトナム産のヒゲナガソ'ウムシ類の1''与を受けた. そのなかに, 南
ベトナムのLamDong省で採集されたMecocerina属に含まれる新極を発見したので, 筆者が以
前タイ北部のチェンマイ県で採集していた同属の新種とあわせて, それぞれをMwatanabe-
orum (南ベトナム), Mangoonae (タイ北部) と命名し, 記,l?l した.

Muc1-onlatiuse11ipticusJORDAN(1923,p.217)wasdescribedonasinglefemalespecimen
collected inJanuary,1907,at Kuching,Sarawak, theIslandofBorneo. Sincethen, there has
beennorecordofthisspecies.Itisapeculiarspeciesinhavingalargeblackroundpatchonthe
centreoftheelytra,andawhitishobscureringaroundthepatch.
IwasabletoexamineaspecimenofMucronianusellipticuscollectedatRayong,central
partofThailandthroughthecourtesyofDr.V.RoJANAvoNGsE,whenIvisitedtheDepartmentof
Entomology,KasetsartUniversity,Bangkok,afewyearsago.NotonlyKuching,thetypelocal-
itvofthespeciesbutalsoRayong,asecondknownhabitatfacestheSouthChinaSea(Fig.1).
