Apprenticeships
MrShappsaskedformoreinformationonapprenticeshipsinthe
GAsector.Business,InnovationandSkillssaidGA–asopposedto
aerospacemanufacturing–isnotoneoftheGovernment’spriority
sectorsintermsofeconomicdevelopment,butsaidtheycould
workwithTransporttodeterminethelevelofinterestintheGA
sectortodevelopnewapprenticeshipstandards.Apprenticeships,
theysaid,aredemand-drivenandsector-originated,andhadtobe
applicableacrossthewholesector,soanapprenticeatthesmallest
workshopshouldbeonthesamestandardasoneatBritish
Aerospace.Theyrelyonindustrytoproposeapprenticeship
standards.
MrShappssaidtheUKshoulddomoretoencourageflight
trainingintheUK.Mostprofessionalpilottraininghappensabroad
despitethefactthatEnglishistheindustrystandardlanguage.
HMRCsaidthattheonlyVATexemptionsfortrainingapplytothe
