Unlike the others, who had brought every heavy hitter they could muster, Lina had acted differently. She had purposefully not called the strongest from her own faction to the front.
In fact, she didn’t call any of her faction at all! Instead, she had left behind clear, rigid instructions for them to remain stationed at key junctions, ready to move at a moment’s notice to any spot that might fall into danger.
Her faction was considered the smallest in the guild, lacking a primary territory to defend, and for once, that lack of responsibility worked perfectly for her. Her people were the crucial reserves, the invisible safety net for the guild, for the continent, for their world.
"You are here."
The greeting came from Ro, Berry, and Sara as the grand group finally reached the Scorching Lands town. They stood at the vanguard of their own forces, with the imposing figures of Panther and the grandfathers of Sara and Berry standing like pillars of stone behind them.
"We have already prepared everything," Ro continued, her voice possessing a new, battle-hardened edge. "Let us head to the central tent and discuss the battle plan immediately. Time is not our ally."
As the faction leaders moved through the town, those who had visited the Scorching Lands before were stunned by the transformation. It was no longer a dusty frontier outpost; it was a sprawling hub of military and industrial activity.
One entire district was now dedicated to a massive cluster of portals, shimmering with an intense light. The town was currently linked to more than twenty different hot spots across the continent, and according to the recent news, new gates were being added every few hours.
The town was undergoing a grand reconstruction that rivalled the initial building of Lara’s city. Massive stone walls were rising from the earth, punctuated by high watchtowers and reinforced battlements.
The town’s footprint was expanding outward, incorporating new defensive zones to accommodate the flood of many local forces pouring in from every direction before they vanished into the portals to reinforce the various fronts.
Using their spirit senses, every master present could feel the pulsing energy of a rising grand city. This was no longer just a town; it was a city in the making, a secondary heart for the Fox Guild designed to mirror and support Lara’s capital.
Inside the command tent, the atmosphere was tense. Ro stepped up to a massive table covered in detailed and updated maps.
"...This is the latest update from the different fronts we are in connection with," Ro said, concluding a brief but dense tactical briefing.
"In summary, we are currently linked with twenty-three different strategic locations across the continent. We are working in lockstep with Lara’s and Anjie’s headquarters to ensure total coverage.
Out of those twenty-three, the Scarlet Bear tide has officially hit eleven spots, including the two primary hot zones adjacent to William’s current coordinates."
"Great job!" Lara was the first to speak, her voice filled with genuine admiration. "I cannot express how relieved I am for your support. This infrastructure changes everything. Now, instead of being forced into a single path, we have options. The question is: how do we proceed?"
She looked around, inviting the gathered masters to weigh in. The maps spread before them were a tapestry of red zones and blue lines. Initially, the group had planned to attack only the two spots closest to the original breach, simply because they lacked the means to go anywhere else.
But with eleven active tide zones now accessible through the new portal network, the strategic landscape had shifted. They could pick their targets to best fulfil William’s request in the shortest time possible.
"I’d say we stick to the two areas immediately adjacent to William’s position," Fang said, his voice gravelly and firm. He stepped toward the map, his finger tapping the zones near William’s monster gate.
"When I was on the other side with him, we spoke about the possibility of there being more than just one Medium World involved in this grand invasion.
If we scatter our elite forces across all eleven zones, we risk entering a world William isn’t in. It’s best to play it safe and target the closest areas to his; they have the highest probability of being connected to the same realm he is currently infiltrating."
The logic of Fang’s suggestion hung heavy in the air, but the maps told a grimmer story. The maps showed that in the two zones adjacent to William’s breach, the situation was catastrophic.
Because the guild’s new infrastructure had been established only recently, the response to those specific sectors had been tragically late.
The two towns that originally stood there had been levelled to the ground; there were no strong walls to hide behind, no local forces to aid, no tents for the wounded, and no safe havens for the exhausted masters to recover their spirit energy.
In contrast, the newer tide spots looked far more promising. The girls had intervened before the monster tides had even fully materialised, allowing the garrison forces to remain at full strength behind intact walls.
"I say we attack at least five different spots simultaneously," Lina interjected, her voice cutting through the indecision with a clarity that drew every eye in the room.
"We have five groups of William’s special monsters—one set each for our primary leaders. Each group can lead a vanguard of our strongest masters to a different location. If we do this, we don’t pin all our hopes on just two locations that are already half-swallowed by the bears. We increase our odds of finding a stable path back to him."
"This..."
"Can we actually pull that off?"
A ripple of doubt passed through the newest faction masters, but the veterans—those who had seen William’s monsters in action—nodded in grim support. It was a wise diversification of risk.
"It’s settled then," Anjie declared, slamming her palm onto the map table to finalise the decision.
