Chapter 660 660: Endless Interrogations

Gulf of Sumer, human-controlled territories.
At the center of the human-controlled area of the Gulf of Sumer, there was a massive military base. It was a heavily fortified base, guarded by many experts and top powerhouses.
Inside one of the mansions within this military base, a cold and lifeless atmosphere prevailed. A young man was sitting in front of a table, while a middle-aged man wearing golden armor stood across from him.
A sacred and powerful aura was radiating from the middle-aged man, an aura that seemed to originate from divinity itself.
"Can I ask why I'm being interrogated again?" Kayn asked with a tired and irritated tone as he looked at the holy knight in front of him.
"We have obtained new information, and it is necessary to ask some questions about it," the holy knight replied indifferently.
Kayn let out an annoyed sigh. Nearly three weeks had passed since they escaped from the demons, and during all this time, he had been here waiting for Daniel to return.
However, in those three weeks, there had been no news of him. A part of Kayn had already become convinced that his friend had been killed by the demons.
Still, another part of him refused to believe that possibility. That man was a monstrous prodigy, there was no way the demons could kill him, right?
But now that the third week had arrived, he had truly lost hope. He wanted to leave today and return to his organization. Unfortunately, the holy knights who had been sent to protect the saintness did not allow him to leave and said he had to be interrogated again.
During these three weeks, he had been interrogated again and again about various matters. More precisely, they were looking for a reason why he had been in the Gulf of Sumer in the first place.
Because he had previously lied to those two girls, claiming that he was part of the human forces of the Gulf of Sumer and had come to rescue them, he was now in trouble.
The holy knights had realized that he was lying and refused to let him go. And because of his organization's rules and the potential dangers involved, he could not tell the truth, so he had continued lying until now.
And now, this holy knight, more precisely, a Golden Paladin, one of the highest-ranking figures within the holy knight order of the Divine Church, was interrogating him once again.
"You didn't tell us that you were a Wanderer," the Golden Paladin said indifferently, ignoring Kayn's irritation.
"So you figured that out too. You should know that revealing our identity is forbidden," Kayn shrugged.
"Not in a situation like this," the Paladin said angrily and slammed his hand on the table. He clearly disliked the boy in front of him, yet this bastard still dared to talk nonsense.
"I haven't committed any crime. On the contrary, I saved your saintness, and this is how you repay me?" Kayn said mockingly.
"Saving the saintness was your duty. If you had told the truth during the first interrogation, things would not have come to this. If you still refuse to tell the truth now, I will be forced to send you to the church's prison."
"Excuse me? On what charge?"
"On the charge of acting against the security of the human race and destroying all relations between the two races," the Golden Paladin replied coldly.
"How exactly? I haven't done anything to harm my own race! What kind of ridiculous excuse is this?" Kayn shouted angrily.
"You did nothing? All of the Demon King's children were killed three weeks ago, and the only people present at that time were you and your friend. Do you have any idea what consequences their deaths could bring?"
"All of the Demon King's children were killed?" Kayn fell silent. He had not expected such news. But how was that even possible?
Wait… there was only one possibility… Could it have been Daniel?
"It seems you finally realized something and remembered," the Paladin said with a smile when he saw the change in Kayn's expression.
"That's impossible. Killing all of them is impossible! Not with the army that was protecting them," Kayn said, still unable to accept it.
"Yet it happened. And you and your friend are the main suspects. Since your friend is most likely dead, you are the only criminal left. If we hand you over to the demons, we might be able to prevent a war."
Kayn frowned and was about to say something, but suddenly an angry voice echoed through the mansion.
"That's enough! I will not allow you to treat my savior like this!"
The door burst open, and two beautiful women entered the mansion.
"Saintness!" The Paladin immediately stood up and bowed deeply when he saw the woman who had entered.
"I'm pretty sure I said he was free to go wherever he wished. Why did you stop him again?" the saintness asked angrily.
"Saintness, we cannot release him. The demons are furious, and we have received reports that a massive demon army has been dispatched to the Gulf. They are clearly preparing for war, and this man is currently the primary suspect behind their anger."
"We questioned him repeatedly about why he and his friend came to the Gulf, but he lied every time. He even hid his identity in such a critical situation and refuses to say anything about his friend, who is likely responsible for all of this."
"By your order, we did not force him to speak. However, our options have now run out," the Paladin explained respectfully, yet confidently.
"Besides, he didn't really play a role in saving you. In the end, it was us who managed to retrieve you by trading that boy who was born with divine energy."
Hearing his words, the saintness felt a headache coming on. No matter how she looked at it, the holy knight was not entirely wrong. Still, she could not allow anything to happen to the savior of her maid and her best friend.
Unfortunately, her authority in a situation like this was limited.
"If I had known saving the saintness would bring me this much trouble, I would have left her there to die," Kayn interrupted with a sarcastic tone.
"Shut up, you infidel! How dare you speak about the saintness's death!" the Golden Paladin roared in anger, and killing intent burst out from his entire body.
"That's enough, both of you!" the saintness shouted angrily, and both of them fell silent. She turned and looked at her maid.
Melia simply shrugged.
Before she could say anything, a frightened and panicked knight suddenly rushed inside.
"The demons have launched an attack! The demons have begun large-scale assaults across the entire Gulf!"
