Chapter 662: Guild In Danger Again

Previous Chapter
Daniel calmly entered the elevator of the Everlight Moon Guild’s main building. After receiving Lana’s call an hour ago, he had come here without any delay.
He had wanted to rest today. After all, in the past few weeks he had gone through truly intense and strange experiences , dangerous ones, even coming close to death more than once.
However, it seemed fate had other plans for him. Lana had called and told him to come to the guild as soon as possible, and sensing that it was something important, he had come here immediately.
The elevator started moving, and it didn’t take long before it reached the floor where the guild leader’s office was located. When the elevator stopped, he stepped out and walked toward the guild leader’s office.
Knock knock!
"Come in," a female voice that sounded somewhat tired came from inside.
Daniel opened the door, and the scene that greeted him was Lana sitting on her father’s chair behind the desk. Her face looked full of fatigue and tension.
However, when she saw that it was Daniel, a smile appeared on the face of the tired girl. It was as if all her exhaustion and the pressure on her disappeared for a moment.
"You’re finally back! Welcome back!" She stood up and greeted him happily.
"Thanks, but I would have preferred it if you let me rest today instead of welcoming me," Daniel laughed lightly and sat down.
"Tea? Coffee?"
"Tea, please."
Lana picked up the phone, called the service staff, and asked them to bring two cups of tea. She put the phone down, then her gaze settled on Daniel again.
The room was quiet for a few moments, until she sighed and then asked in a serious tone,
"Didn’t you promise that you wouldn’t go to the Gulf until you reached rank S? Then why did you go there?" Even anger could be felt in her voice.
This wasn’t just about breaking a promise. She was angry mainly because this boy had put himself in mortal danger.
Fortunately, he seemed completely fine now.
"It was something important. A promise to an old friend. And at the same time, I didn’t want to miss the chance to take care of some things I had to do there," Daniel gave a tired smile.
"It’s obvious from your face that good things didn’t happen to you there," Lana said after seeing his expression. The sarcasm in her tone was clear.
"Depends. I was captured by demons, almost got killed, and in the end I saved the saintess of the Divine Church. Nothing too special."
"..."
Lana stared at him with her mouth open. All of that happened in just three weeks? On top of that, she felt that there were still many things he hadn’t said.
"Forget my adventures. I’ll explain later. What happened that made you call me here so urgently?" Daniel changed the subject. He didn’t feel like talking about that right now.
"Ah, do you remember the terrorist issue and the investigations the government was supposed to carry out against our guild?"
"Of course. It hasn’t been that long since you told me about it."
"Well, it’s related to that," Lana sighed from exhaustion. She was so tired that she felt like dying right now just to be free from this miserable life.
"Does this have anything to do with why your father isn’t here?" Daniel frowned slightly.
"That’s right. Well, my father is currently in prison."
"..."
"You’re joking, right?" For a moment, Daniel felt like he had misheard her, because what he heard made no sense.
"Unfortunately not. But there’s no need to worry. It’s just a simple detention and he’ll be released soon. The real problem is that my father’s detention is actually the smallest issue right now," Lana explained. She just wanted to show how bad the situation was.
"Why was he arrested? Did they find something against him?"
"No. The investigation against our guild went well. Just as expected, they didn’t find anything against us, and this only damaged our reputation a bit."
"The reason my father was detained is that he suddenly attacked the Goblin Guild without telling me the reason. The government intervened, suppressed him by force, and arrested him. Since no one was hurt and the Goblin Guild didn’t file a serious complaint, he’ll be released soon."
Daniel frowned. He knew Varnos. He wasn’t the kind of man who would recklessly attack someone, especially not without a reason. So why did he do that?
Could it be that he found out something and got angry? Or that the Goblin Guild said something to provoke him? Or was all of this just part of a plan and he had another objective?
No matter how much he thought about it, he couldn’t come to any conclusion, mainly because he had no evidence or information at all.
"When will he be released?" Daniel set those thoughts aside and asked.
"By the end of next week, he should be released. I tried to talk to him, but he won’t tell me anything. Instead, he told me not to get involved and said that whenever grandfather comes out of isolation, I should tell him that it was the Goblins’ doing," Lana replied with frustration.
"The Goblins’ doing? Doing what exactly?" Daniel asked.
"I have no idea."
Daniel frowned, but the frown quickly disappeared. He would have to ask the guild leader about this himself later.
"So what’s the problem with the terrorists?" he asked next.
If he remembered correctly, the terrorists had demanded that the government hand over the deserts on the eastern borders to them in exchange for stopping their attacks.
At the time, he hadn’t paid much attention to it, since it didn’t concern him and didn’t affect him much.
"The terrorists attacked the eastern borders and have taken control of a large part of the lands they wanted," Lana explained.
"They attacked? They really have that kind of guts?" Daniel laughed. He hadn’t expected a small terrorist group to dare attack a country.
Unless, of course, they had hidden supporters encouraging them to do this.
"Unfortunately, yes. I also don’t know how they found the courage to do it. But that’s not the main issue right now. The problem is that their attack had a huge impact on us."
"Why? Don’t tell me..."
"That’s right. When the terrorists started their attack, a meeting was held between the top guilds and the government. It was decided that the government and all guilds would send forces to fight the terrorists."
"At that meeting, in order to rebuild our reputation, we had no choice but to take the lead. That’s why we sent far more forces than the others."
"But it didn’t take long before the other guilds, and even the government, pulled back their forces from the front lines. Now only our forces are fighting. When we complained about this, the government said their forces were still there and would intervene if necessary."
"And they said, wouldn’t it be better for us if we could defeat the terrorists on our own? To make sure we wouldn’t back down, they mobilized all the media against us and published the news however they wanted," Lana explained everything and sighed again at the end.
A frown appeared on Daniel’s face again. It wasn’t hard for him to understand that their goal was to weaken the Everlight Moon Guild.
This was most likely the Goblin Guild’s request, and they had set up this plan for that purpose.
’More and more, I’m becoming convinced that their real goal is to take control of the country.’
"Oh, there’s another problem as well... my sister..."
