Chapter 441 Bringing in New Members (2)

"I’m sure that by now you all know who I am, but I figure that is should at least introduce myself. I’m Avery Asteria, the owner of this ship and leader of the newly established Asteria Mercenary Company."
The hushed chattered among the people quickly quieted as Avery addressed the over twenty-five hundred new members joining his crew.
While he looked to be just an average young man, there was a commanding air about him and a strength in his voice that brokered attention.
Even the veteran mercenaries joining up that had a decade or more experience under their belts did not look down on him. They understood just how impressive Avery was despite his age and only him only having been a mercenary for a bit more than a year.
"First, I would like to commend all of you. Among the hundreds of thousands that applied to join this vessel’s crew, you are the ones that were most qualified. Either for your already developed skills, or your vast potential." Avery said, flattering his new crew members to make them feel more welcome and less nervous.
For a few more minutes he spoke about the team that they would be joining and how that he was looking forward to working with them.
Avery also made sure to mention that those that applied themselves and were able to achieve results would be rewarded. For those wishing to be pilots, this meant potentially even acquiring a ship of their own one day.
A lot of the Azadian orphans looked excited at this prospect. No doubt some of them joined with dreams of becoming an ace pilot and shooting down hordes of space pirates or monsters on their own.
Soon, Avery brought his speech to an end and told everyone to relax and enjoy the refreshments being provided.
For today, the only thing they would need to worry about was stuffing their faces and room assignments. Tomorrow would be the first real day of work where they were shown around the ship by more senior members of the team and given their roles.
’I think that went pretty well. If I went on much longer, I think that they might have started to consider me as someone that liked to give longwinded speeches just to hear my own voice. But I didn’t see any negative reactions. Most seemed positive and the rest were just neutral.’
With the festivities going at full force, things got a little rowdy. But considering that this was a mercenary ship, it was honestly quite tame.
Avery’s new company that he had created was made up of mercenaries that would be considered fairly mild mannered and professional among their kind.
Before they had just been a collective of mercenaries working together under Avery. Now though, they had formally registered as a company with the Mercenary Association.
With the addition of so many members and a massive carrier ship as a mobile base, it did not make much sense for them to just be considered a ragtag team of likeminded mercenaries joined together.
They represented a powerful military force now, and it was best that they presented themselves as such.
There were organizations that specifically looked to hire mercenary companies of certain sizes or with rare specialties. Now, Avery new company would be registered in the Mercenary Association’s database for anyone looking for a group with a battleship class vessel. Something that very few mercenaries in the entire Dramid Alliance possessed.
"I suppose that we should start making the rounds. We’re all going to be living on the same ship going forward, so we should get to know everyone."
Now that the banquet was starting to settle down a bit, Avery directed the other leaders to go and get better acquainted with the new crew members.
He especially urged Kaiden to be more sociable than usual, since he needed to recruit more people to serve as crew on his corvette. Right now, he had taken some of the members that had been working under him while he temporarily captained the stealth corvette from the Vanmir Republic. But it was necessary for around half of them to stay with the ship that they were now familiar with.
Fortunately, there were plenty of people to choose from among the more than twenty-five hundred new recruits. Many of them would doubtlessly want to add being members of one of the carrier’s three corvettes to their duties.
’Looks like groups are already starting to form. That’s inevitable though, considering how many people we’ve got now. We’re basically a small mobile town at this point.’ Avery thought as he went around talking to some of the more outgoing crew members.
There were a number of people that seemed nervous when he came around since he was their boss.
Only those with strong personalities or extreme confidence in their abilities spoke to him without a hint of nervousness.
Of course, as Avery made his way around, he was on the lookout for those with leadership potential.
Currently he had a decent core group that could serve as commanders, but they would need people under them capable of managing the average crew member.
The larger a group became, the more necessary a strict structure was. Avery knew that he would not be able to loosely lead anymore. He would always need to be on top of things.
’Ah, looks like she finally made it. I was wondering if she would even show up.’
Despite being among the shortest people present, Doctor Raiti’s distinct, turquoise-colored hair was eye-catching enough that Avery spotted her almost immediately.
He had asked her to make an appearance so that he could introduce her as the ship’s doctor. Though she had been preoccupied with arranging her new lab just how she liked it, so it had been up in the air whether she would be coming or not. The only thing that she listened to were her own desires after all, and Avery had not wanted to force the issue in this instance.
