Clovis had no hesitation in approaching the leader. The latter were trying to break free from Christina’s Provoke and pushed both her and Jay back.
"This is..." Christina furrowed her eyebrows. Even with Jay’s help, it wasn’t enough to stop this berserk leader. "Clovis!"
The leader immediately swung his axe at Clovis, who had just arrived. For most people, this kind of attack would force them to back away, but for some, like Clovis and Aileen, this movement was a bit sluggish.
Clovis lowered his center of gravity. The reason people backed away was that once they lowered their center of gravity, they wouldn’t be able to attack him in this position. So, it was better not to risk their lives without any result.
But Clovis and Aileen were swift and flexible enough to turn their bodies around.
Clovis spun his body and jumped forward, letting his body float a bit underneath the leader. Then, he swung his blade.
The sword cut the right arm, albeit it wasn’t enough to reach the head, only leaving a surface wound from the cheek to above the eyebrow and blinding his right eye.
"Tsk." Clovis clicked his tongue. Even in that state, it looked like the leader could sense danger. His body tilted back a little bit, which stopped him from slashing his head.
The leader then jumped away right after.
"Graaa!" The leader roared in anger and rushed back to Clovis, who had just fallen down to the ground.
"You’re not getting away anymore." Christina reactivated her Provoke, stopping the leader for a moment. Clovis skillfully propelled his body back up.
Without the right hand, the leader’s strength decreased significantly. When he struck Christina again, Christina could fully stop his attack this time.
Clovis first threw his short sword at the man’s head, forcing the guy to tilt back. When Clovis approached the man, the latter spun his body, dragging the axe to get enough momentum to replace the strength of the right hand.
Clovis struck the axe with all his power, using the last bit of his power in this strike.
The clash between killing intent and momentum caused Christina to back off a bit.
Still, no matter how much he took advantage of the momentum, the leader couldn’t replicate the power of his dominant hand. As a result, Clovis overpowered him and knocked the axe back.
If Clovis wanted to kill this man, he had to swing one more time, but the man would still have enough time to counter that strike.
That was why Clovis decided to let someone else deliver the killing blow. In the end, he was satisfied with killing the Tier 7 mutated beast.
Hence, Clovis kicked the leader in the stomach and blew him away.
"Graaa!" The mutated human tried to stabilize his body, but he suddenly felt a presence behind him.
"Gra or whatever. This is the end." Jay released his Grand Impact and split the man in two, killing the enemy’s leader.
Unfortunately, no one on the enemy side witnessed their leader’s death. It could have devastated their morale. But this was better for whatever they were doing.
As long as those people continued to attack them, they wouldn’t escape. This way, they would have an easier time dealing with the rest of the mutated humans.
"Jay. You handle the—!" Before he could say anything, he suddenly dropped to the ground. "Kh."
"Clovis?" Christina panicked and checked his condition, only realizing that he had used up his power. "Oh. You are just exhausted."
"Yeah."
"You don’t have to worry. I have experienced this a few times. You will probably not be able to use your unique ability for some time, but there should be no problem with your body," explained Christina. "I will listen to you if you want to complain."
"Complaining about what? I am already grateful to you for telling me your technique even though we’re in the middle of the battle." Clovis shook his head.
Christina harrumphed before turning her head to Jay. "By the way, you should go first, Jay. I’m going to bring this guy to a safe area before catching up."
Jay just nodded his head. In the end, there were still plenty of targets to kill.
"So, this is only the release of that power, right?" Clovis asked while Christina supported his body.
"Yeah. I usually coat my shield with my unique ability. That’s why the enemies are always targeting my shield. It’s just... from the looks of it, my unique ability is less effective against a mutated beast."
Clovis thought for a moment. "Coating my weapon with my unique ability. And being able to fully control my unique ability... I see, so that’s how it is."
Clovis finally understood why Mara was known for her firepower. The reason for her slash to be able to cut down an entire city was precisely this.
But he also had another thought. The killing intent wasn’t just used as a weapon. It could improve his speed or something else by activating the essence of a certain beast.
"If that’s the case, can’t I use my killing intent on my shoes or somewhere else?"
"Hmm?" Christina tilted her head, but that statement was actually more beneficial for her than Clovis. "What did you say?"
"Can’t I use my killing intent on my shoes or somewhere else?"
"Oh!" Christina nodded her head. "I think of something that can improve my unique ability."
"Mind telling me about it?"
"Sure. If you agree to be my helper, that is."
"I prefer the term ’training partner.’" Clovis chuckled. "Besides, to improve my control over my unique ability, I also need a training partner."
Christina laughed back. "In that case, don’t ask for mercy later. I’m not planning to stop until I master this technique."
"I should ask the same."
Although their conversation had to stop at one point because Kanaria had to rejoin the fight, the result of the battle was obvious.
With Christina and Jay going around, the number of enemies decreased rapidly. In an hour, they killed the rest of the mutated humans and the mutated beasts, concluding their mission in this country.
